Water Line Replacement Project

Please pardon our progress as construction has begun on a major water line replacement project which will replace a large portion of the existing water lines in town (see map- click on read more). The project cost is approximately $1.6 million and is long over due. The new water lines will replace lines that are approximately 70 to 80 years old.

These new lines will provide better water quality as well as pressure because the lines will be looped. This means that there will be a continuous flow through the lines instead of dead ended. This provides better water quality and pressure which will also help with fire protection.

USDA Grant Presentation

The City of Cornelia was pleased to receive a $300,000 Grant Check from the USDA on Thursday, August 30, 2007. The presentation was held at the Historic Depot. The money will be used for lines for the Global Tech project. This is part of Cornelia's continued plan for upgrading services for the Citizens of Cornelia.

Presenting the check was State Director F. Stone Workman. Pictured with Mr. Workman are Senator Schaefer and Representative Bridges, Mayor Don Higgins, Commissioners Margaret Ballard, Tony Cook and Wes Dodd.

Soapbox derby winners

The "Water Boys Racing Team" entered a "professional" soapbox derby car in our recent birthday celebration race. The winners are receiving a trophey from Millie Stevens and Donald Anderson.
