City Announces Operation Changes During Construction of Municipal Complex

Cornelia, Ga – The City of Cornelia held the groundbreaking ceremony for our new Municipal Complex on Tuesday, March 19th. While this was a ceremony it does mean that we are very close to the start of this project. There will be some temporary changes to some of the city’s operations during construction which is expected to take 12 months.

The Fire Station located at 156 Foreacre Street as well as the City Hall Annex will have to be demolished in order to construct the New City Hall and Police Station. The demolition will begin in April, however, Georgia Power will be disconnecting the power to the buildings on April 3rd.

Beginning on Monday, March 25th the Fire Department will relocate all of their operations to the North Fire Station located at 347 Highway 441 North until the completion of the new Fire Station. Beginning Monday, April 1st our Planning Department will be relocated to the North Fire Station as well until the New City Hall is complete.

On April 2nd at 6:00 PM the City Commission will hold the final Commission meeting in the existing Courtroom. Beginning with the Commission meeting in May the Commission meetings will be held at the Community House which is located at 601 Wyly Street. The meetings will be on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM.
